Wheat Kings Earn Single Point in Loss to Swift Current

Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Branden, MB - The Brandon Wheat Kings fired everything but the kitchen sink at Reid Dyck on Friday night, and if they had... he likley would have stopped that too.

The Broncos netminder turned aside 46 of a season high 49 Wheat Kings shots on goal as the Broncos picked up a 4-3 overtime victory at Westoba Place.

"We have to bare down," said defenseman Chad Nychuk. "We didn't get to the inside tonight. Their goalie played great, but even though we had a lot of shots, he saw most of them. We needed to be better at getting to the front of the net and taking away his eyes."

Nychuk, who recorded a Gordie Howe Hat-Trick extended his point streak to six games. The 20-year-old has 2 goals and eight assists in that span, but would trade in all those points for different results in the last 48 hours.

"It's frustrating for sure," he added. "We have to get back to taking care of the little things. The little details make all the difference in games and we've gotten away from that these last couple of nights."

Cole Nagy also picked up a Gordie Howe Hat-Trick, while Karson King, Grayson Burzynski and Connor Hvidston added singles for the Broncos.

The Wheat Kings scored twice on the powerplay, snapping an 0 for 17 run dating back to January 18th in Calgary. Chad Nychuk's 2nd period marker was created entirely from a Roger McQueen faceoff win. The 15-year-old, who made his WHL debut picked up his first career point on the play and finished the night 6/11 in the faceoff circle.

"He's got a great future ahead of him," added Nychuk. "You can just see it with the way he came in here tonight and didn't look out of place at all. He was solid in the faceoff circle and skated with confidence, im excited to watch him grow."

The Wheat Kings will get a chance at redemption on Tuesday night, in the first of four-games through Saskatchewan and Alberta. The four-game road trip is bookended with stops in Speedy Creek.

Fans can catch Tuesday's game from the Credit Union iPlex on Bounce 96.1 and the iHeartRadio App, starting with the pre-game show at 6:45 PM.
