February 12, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - Portland Winterhawks goaltender Taylor Gauthier officially set the Club's franchise record for longest shutout streak at 251 minutes and 11 seconds. The streak came to an end during Friday night's 8-1 win against Spokane. Gauthier broke Brendan Burke's franchise record of 174:57 set during the 2013-14 season and was within 15 minutes of the WHL record set back in 1968.
Taylor Gauthier, 20, started the shutout streak on January 28th against his former club, the Prince George Cougars. After allowing a goal 7:41 into the first period, Gauthier was perfect the rest of the game and earned first star honors for his 26-save performance. He returned to the net on January 30th and posted a 17-save shutout against Tri-City to lift the Winterhawks to a weekend sweep. Following an impressive showing on home ice, the Winterhawks rode the hot glove on the road and once again, Gauthier blanked the Tri-City Americans on February 4th with a 25-save effort. In his next start on February 9 against the Spokane Chiefs, he officially broke the record and added to it by securing his third consecutive shutout in a 9-0 win. Gauthier started the team's next game against the Chiefs at Spokane Arena on February 11, finally allowing a goal 18:52 into the first period while the Hawks were shorthanded.
The Calgary, Alta. product was recently named the WHL Goaltender of the Month, posting league-leading numbers in January with a perfect 7-0-0-0 record, 1.70 goals against average and .945 save percentage. He has still not lost a game with Portland, helping to guide the Hawks to their current 18-game point streak and 11-game winning streak.
