Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, Ore. - Cross Hanas posted a hat-trick, Ryan McCleary recorded his first career multi-goal game and the Portland Winterhawks put up at least six goals for a sixth straight game en route to an 8-1 win over the Spokane Chiefs on Friday.

Since this five-game series against the Chiefs began on Saturday, Feb. 5, Portland has outscored Spokane 24-4 through three games. The Winterhawks have won 11 straight contests dating back to Jan. 16, and have recorded at least a point in 18 consecutive games dating back to Dec. 18, 2021.

As they have done in several recent games, the Winterhawks raced out to an early lead with some quick strikes in the first period. Jaydon Dureau opened the scoring at 6:02 with his 13th of the year, pushing his goal streak to three straight games with five tallies in that span. Aidan Litke doubled Portland's lead three minutes later, followed by another from Ryan McCleary at 13:31. Litke and McCleary scored similar goals, capitalizing on team rushes with wrist shots to the glove side.

Spokane got on the board with Erik Atchison's eighth goal of the season on a power play just before the end of the first, but the Hawks rattled off five unanswered tallies in the final 40 minutes to wrap things up. Hanas got things started with his first of the night on a penalty shot early in the second, before Marek Alscher chipped in another late in the middle stanza for a 5-1 Portland lead. Clay Hanus assisted on Alscher's tally, marking his 11th straight game with a point. In the third, McCleary posted his second tally of the night - his first career multi-goal game - and Hanas potted a pair in the final 10 minutes to cap off his first hat-trick of the year and the Winterhawks' second of the last three games.

After breaking the Winterhawks' franchise record for longest shutout streak at the VMC on Wednesday, goaltender Taylor Gauthier finished his streak with a time of 251:11 after Atchison's first-period tally. Gauthier stopped 25 of 26 shots on the night and picked up his 10th win in as many appearances for the Hawks.

Portland and Spokane meet again tomorrow night at Spokane Arena.
