
Pats Blank Hitmen 5-0; Pyne Has Historic Night

Regina, Sask. - It was a night to remember for Kelton Pyne and the Regina Pats on Friday night at the Brandt Centre, with the young goaltender from White City Saskatchewan picking up his first career Western Hockey League win by blanking the visiting Calgary Hitmen 5-0.
Pyne was making just the second WHL start of his career and first at home, and turned aside all 24 shots he faced.
Connor Bedard kept his hot play going in style, factoring in on all five goals, with a hat-trick and two assists, bringing his season totals to 52 points in just 35 games. Ryker Evans also had a standout performance, with a goal and two helpers, bringing his point total to 46 in 41 games.
The Pats power play went an impressive 3-for-4 on Friday, while their penalty kill went 2-for-2.

THE GOALS
1st Period
REG 1-0 at 14:42 - Logan Nijhoff (15), assisted by Ryker Evans (34) and Connor Bedard (23) (PPG) // The Pats took advantage of a hooking minor to Calgary, after Nijhoff redirected home a low shot from the right circle from Ryker Evans to open the scoring, snapping a seven game goalless streak.
REG 2-0 at 19:38 - Connor Bedard (26), assisted by Layton Feist (13) // Feist pinched at the left point, moving it back to Bedard, who made a quick move around Cael Zimmerman, finding open ice up high in the zone, and then fired one through a number of bodies to the back of the net.
2nd Period
REG 3-0 at 0:39 - Connor Bedard (27), assisted by Tanner Howe (21) // Bedard entered the zone down the right wing and and let a wrist shot go from below the right circle that went perfectly over Buenaventura's shoulder and inside the near post, picking up his second of the game.
3rd Period
REG 4-0 at 4:24 - Connor Bedard (28), assisted by Ryker Evans (35) and Tanner Howe (22) // After a strong cycle by the Pats, Bedard walked into the high slot and ripped the puck past the blocker for his second career hat-trick.
REG 5-0 at 15:35 - Ryker Evans (11), assisted by Connor Bedard (24) // Evans used Cole Dubinsky's screen to his advantage on the power play, sending a wrister through traffic and into the net to put the game to bed.

The Pats head to Saskatoon tomorrow for a 7 p.m. puck drop against the Blades. Next week they don't play until Friday, February 18, when they travel to Prince Albert. The next Pats home game is Monday, February 21 at 2 p.m. in the Family Day game.
