Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB -- The Medicine Hat Tigers have had the Oil Kings number this season and once again on Friday night at the Canalta Centre, the team from Edmonton would give everything they had but still came up short in a shootout, the Tigers second straight game in the extra period.

The Oil Kings came out flying in the first period sending 20 shots at Nick Schneider getting two past him. Tyson Gruninger scored his third on the season and Brandon Baddock collected his 18th before he was ejected with a five-minute checking from behind major and a game misconduct.

The Tigers seem to get some life from that scoring once on the man advantage as Caleb Fantillo buried one behind Patrick Dea with two minutes left in the period.

The Tigers Mason Shaw evened things up 1:46 into the middle frame, which was just six seconds after Baddock's major penalty expired. Chad Butcher put Medicine Hat ahead 3-2 when he broke in alone shorthanded and beat Dea on a quick shot. But the veteran Luke Bertolucci tied it back up as he was on the doorstep banging at the puck when it snuck in behind Schneider with only 27 seconds left in the period.

The third period and overtime were full of end-to-end chances but ultimately solved nothing and the teams had to go to a shootout to determine who would get the very valuable extra point.

The Tigers Butcher and Max Gerlach scored on the shootout with Brett Pollock tallying Edmonton's lone goal. The shootout loss puts the Oil Kings only two points up on the Tigers for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The two teams will close out the six game series March 4, 2016 at Rexall Place.
