Spokane Chiefs News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs outshot the visiting Portland Winterhawks 39-18 but couldn't find enough offense to win, dropping a 3-2 contest on Friday night at Spokane Arena. Evan Fiala and Keanu Yamamoto scored for the Chiefs.

Fiala opened the scoring with his 6th goal of the season and second in as many games at the 1:18 mark of the opening period. Off assists from forwards Curtis Miske and Hudson Elynuik, Fiala fired a shot from the blue line that made its way through traffic to the top-left corner of the net.

Portland's Dominic Turgeon scored his career-high 21st goal at the 12:46 mark of the first period, slamming home a rebound goal to tie the game at 1-1.

Rookie centerman Cody Glass took advantage of a 4-on-3 power play with 2:40 left in the period to score his 6th of the season and give the Winterhawks a 2-1 lead. Defenseman Jack Dougherty recorded his second assist of the night on the play.

The Chiefs bounced back early in the second period as Keanu Yamamoto deflected a Matt Sozanski shot up and over the left pad of Portland goaltender Adin Hill to tie the game at 2-2.

With only 17 seconds left in the middle frame, San Jose Sharks prospect Alex Schoenborn took advantage of a Chiefs turnover to score the eventual game-winner as Keoni Texiera earned the lone assist with a crisp stretch pass.

The Chiefs finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.

Spokane hits the road for two games next week beginning in Lethbridge to face the Hurricanes on Wednesday, January 20. Mike Boyle will have the call with the pre-game show starting on 1510 KGA NW Sports Talk at 5:30 p.m. PT.

The Chiefs next return home on Saturday, January 23 for Coca-Cola Ray Whitney Bobblehead Night versus the Kootenay Ice. The first 2,000 people through the gates and all full season ticket holders will receive a bobblehead of the Chiefs great and long-time NHL standout.

Tickets for Coca-Cola Ray Whitney Bobblehead Night and all Chiefs home games are available via TicketsWest online at www.ticketswest.com and via the Chiefs' Ticket Office in person or over the phone at 509-535-PUCK.
