Rapid City Rush News Release
(Moline, IL) - The Rapid City Rush began a three-game road trip with a 4-3 loss to the Quad City Mallards at the i-wireless Center on Friday night. The teams exchanged goals in a see-saw battle that ended with the Mallards scoring a pair of goals in the final four minutes to pull ahead for the eventual win. The Rush now head to Missouri to take on the Mavericks tomorrow at 6:05pm MST. Live coverage can be heard on 100.3 the FOX.
The Rush outshot the Mallards 15-7 in the first period, eventually getting an attempt past Quad City goaltender Adam Russo at the 15:39 mark. Josh Beaulieu picked the pocket of a Mallards defenseman and sped in on a partial breakaway that culminated in a backhand shot that trickled home for the 1-0 lead.
The Mallards battled back in the second period, lighting the lamp just 1:55 in. The goal was scored by Mike McLean from the bottom of the right circle after a Rush clearing attempt was stifled. Quad City then took their first lead of the game on a powerplay goal late in the period. On the powerplay with just 1:05 left in the frame, McLean set up Tyler Townsend at the point for a shot that found it's through a screen and in, making it 2-1 after 40 minutes.
The Rush stormed right back in the third, tallying a pair of goals in the opening 2:30 of the frame. The first goal came at 1:06 when Ryan Menei deflected home his 19th of the season. Just 1:24 later, Josh Beaulieu powered to the front of the net and had his attempt stifled, but Kevin Harvey slammed home the rebound, propelling the Rush to a 3-2 lead. The Rush were well on their way to victory but the Mallards had different plans. Obi Aduba collected his 13th of the year on a broken play deep in the Rush zone that lead to a backhand shot from the top of the crease. The games' deciding goal was scored with just 1:28 left in regulation, when Eric Giosa scored his team-leading 17th goal of the season on a spinning shot from the left faceoff dot, giving the Mallards a 4-3 lead.
The Rush are back in action tomorrow at 6:05pm MST in Independence, Missouri to take on the Mavericks.
