January 14, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (January 14, 2011)- Eric Giosa scored the winning goal with 1:28 left in regulation and Adam Russo made 37 saves as the host Quad City Mallards came from behind late in the third period to defeat the Rapid City Rush 4-3 Friday night. With the win the Mallards (20-15-0, 40 points) moved into a tie with the Rush (18-13-4, 40 points) for first place in the Central Hockey League's Turner Conference.

Giosa, who also had an assist, pounced on a rebound to break a 3-3 deadlock at 18:32 of the third- just over two minutes after the Mallards' Obi Aduba had cut across the goalmouth to backhand home the equalizer.

The Mallards' late rally proved necessary after the Rush scored two quick goals of their own early in the third. Quad City led 2-1 until Ryan Menei knotted the score just one minute and six seconds into the period. The Rush moved in front 84 seconds later when Kevin Harvey crashed the net and jammed the puck in over the goal line.

The Mallards used second period goals from Mike McLean- who would add an assist- and Tyler Townsend to overturn a 1-0 deficit and take the lead for the first time. McLean tied the game at one from a bad angle at 1:55 of the second. At 18:55 the Mallards were on a power play when Townsend- who would go on to assist on the last two Mallard goals and finish the evening with three points- scored from the blue line.

Josh Beaulieu scored the only goal of the first period- shorthanded- at 15:39. Beaulieu swept a rebound past Russo after the Mallard goaltender stopped Beaulieu's initial bid.
