Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (January 14, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced that goaltender David Brown has signed a professional tryout contract with the American Hockey League's Houston Aeros, that the Mallards have activated goaltender Adam Russo and center Mike McLean from injured reserve and that left wing Kevin Jarman has been waived.

Brown, 25, leads the CHL in shutouts (3), ranks third in save percentage (.923) and ranks fourth in goals against average (2.59). The Stoney Creek, Ontario, native has gone 9-10-0 in 21 games this year.

This is the second call-up to the AHL this season for the 6' 0", 185-pound Brown. Brown served as a backup goaltender for the Texas Stars in the Stars' December 8 game against the IceHogs in Rockford.

Brown earlier in his career spent parts of two seasons in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. As a rookie in 2007-08, he went 9-7-1 in 19 AHL games while turning in a 2.34 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. The following year Brown went 1-2-0 in four games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Brown was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the eighth round of the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft with the two hundred twenty-eighth overall pick.

Russo (upper body) and McLean (lower body) were both injured in the Mallards' December 23 game at Missouri and have missed Quad City's last eight games.

Russo, 27, remains the league leader in save percentage (.932) and ranks second in goals against average (2.32). The 5' 9", 180-pound Montreal native has gone 8-3-0 with one shutout in 12 games with the Mallards this season.

McLean, 24, led the Mallards in assists (17) and points (28) at the time of his injury. The Oshawa, Ontario, product was chosen to represent the Flock in Wednesday's CHL All-Star Game in Rapid City but was unable to participate because of the injury. The 6' 0", 180-pound McLean remains the team leader in power play goals- six of his 11 total goals this season have come on the man advantage.
