TONIGHT: The Binghamton Rumble Ponies continue their final road series of the year as they play the second game of a four-game set against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
LAST TIME OUT: The Rumble Ponies fell to the Fisher Cats 9-4 in the series opener Thursday. New Hampshire hit four home runs, including two by Kevin Smith. The Ponies scored first on an Austin Bossart RBI single in the second inning. The Cats took the lead on a Riley Adams two-run homer in the third and increased the lead to 6-2 after Smith's two homers and a two-run home run by Chad Spanberger. Dustin Houle made it a 6-4 game with a two-run homer, but the Fisher Cats added three more in the eighth. Tony Dibrell took the loss as he gave up three runs in four innings.
BOSSART'S FIRST RBI WITH PONIES: With his RBI single in the second inning Thursday, Austin Bossart drove in his first run in a Rumble Ponies uniform. He had seven home runs and 28 RBI with Reading before being traded to the Mets' organization on July 29.
HOULE HITS FIRST HOMER OF SEASON: Dustin Houle hit his first home run of 2019 with a two-run, homer in the eighth inning Thursday night. They were his second and third RBI. Houle missed several weeks as he won a silver medal with Team Canada at the Pan American games in Lima, Peru.
CECCHINI STAYS HOT: Gavin Cecchini recorded one hit and scored one run Thursday. He has now gotten a hit in 10 of his last 11 games.
SMITH BLASTS TWO HOMERS: New Hampshire's Kevin Smith hit two solo home runs Thursday. He now has 19 homers and 60 RBI on the season, both team-highs. His 19 home runs are fourth-most in the Eastern League, and he ranks sixth in the EL in RBI.
JANNIS SETS CAREER-HIGH FOR STRIKEOUTS: RHP Mickey Jannis is coming off consecutive outings in which he set a career-high for strikeouts. Last time out, he struck out 12 over seven innings in a 2-1 loss to Hartford on August 17. Prior to that start, the knuckleballer fanned 10 over six innings in a 3-1 loss to New Hampshire on August 13.
SYRACUSE METS WIN EIGHT STRAIGHT: The Syracuse Mets have won eight straight games and are 1.5 games out of first place. Several former Rumble Ponies have contributed to the streak. On Tuesday, Sam Haggerty tallied two hits and three RBI, while Chris Mazza went 2-3 with two doubles and Eric Hanhold picked up the win. Jason Krizan went 4-4 with two runs scored Sunday. Stephen Nogosek has earned two saves during the streak.
