Royals Assigned Forward from Monarchs

MANCHESTER, NH – The Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the Reading Royals, on Friday assigned right wing Leon Hayward to the Royals and released defenseman Chad Dameworth from his professional tryout agreement.

Hayward, 24, has appeared in 30 games with the Monarchs this season, recording five points (1-4=5) and 13 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound native of Seattle, Washington, has also appeared in 20 games for the Royals this season, recording 10 points (7-3=10) and 14 penalty minutes. Hayward agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Monarchs in August of 2003.

Dameworth, 31, has appeared in 10 games with the Monarchs this season, recording one point (0-1=1) and four penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound native of Marquette, Michigan, has also appeared in seven games with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL this season, recording zero points and four penalty minutes, and 20 games with the Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League this season, recording six points (1-5=6) and 39 penalty minutes.

Saturday, the Royals host the first place Wheeling Nailers at 7:05 p.m. Reading will be wearing special Penske racing jerseys, which will be auctioned off live at the conclusion of the game with a portion of the proceeds going to Royals Charities. Ryan Newman's NASCAR will be on display during the game and the first 1,000 fans receive Crown Royals Carabiners. Finally Sunday afternoon, the Royals tangle with the defending Kelly Cup Champion, Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies at 1:05 p.m. It's Kid's Day in the Sovereign Center, with the first 2,000 fans receiving beanie pucks courtesy of Reading Area Community College. Plus, it's the finals of the Reading Royals Idol competition.
