Goaltender Hamerlik Receives ECHL Honor

READING, PA – The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have announced that goaltender Peter Hamerlik has been named Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month for February.

Hamerlik, 22, claimed the honor after a spectacular month posting a 6-0-1 record with a 1.42 goals against average and .955 save percentage. It is the second league honor in two weeks for Hamerlik, who claimed the ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week from February 9-15. During that week, the Slovakia native stopped 129 of 134 shots he faced posting a sparkling 1.25 goals against average and a .963 save percentage. The Royals posted a perfect 4-0-0 record to remain in playoff contention in the Northern Division.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound goaltender is now 8-1-2 in a Royals uniform. He is unbeaten in his last nine starts (7-0-2) dating back to January 25. Hamerlik dropped his goals against average in February from 2.60 to 1.81 and his save percentage vaulted from .908 to .940. Overall this season, the 2002 fifth round selection of the Boston Bruins is 9-6-3 with a 2.57 goals against average and .920 save percentage.

Hamerlik began the season with the Augusta Lynx of the Western Conference. In seven games with Augusta, he posted a 1-5-1 record with a 3.82 goals against average and .891 save percentage. He also appeared in three games with the Providence Bruins of the AHL going 1-1-1 with a 1.91 goals against average and .939 save percentage. Hamerlik is currently under contract with the Boston Bruins. He was loaned to Reading on January 14, 2004.

Saturday, the Royals host the first place Wheeling Nailers at 7:05 p.m. Reading will be wearing special Penske racing jerseys, which will be auctioned off live at the conclusion of the game with a portion of the proceeds going to Royals Charities. Ryan Newman's NASCAR will be on display during the game and the first 1,000 fans receive Crown Royals Carabiners. Finally Sunday afternoon, the Royals tangle with the defending Kelly Cup Champion, Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies at 1:05 p.m. It's Kid's Day in the Sovereign Center, with the first 2,000 fans receiving beanie pucks courtesy of Reading Area Community College. Plus, it's the finals of the Reading Royals Idol competition.
