Gwinnett's Doell Named Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Gwinnett center Kevin Doell is the Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Month for February.

In his first professional season, Doell led the ECHL in February with 11 goals and 21 points in 14 games as Gwinnett went 10-3-1 to improve to 32-19-5 and third place in the Central Division. Under contract to Chicago of the American Hockey League, Doell led the Gladiators with four power-play goals and tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals.

The 24-year-old Doell ended the month tied for the ECHL rookie lead with 24 goals and six game-winning goals. Named ECHL Player of the Week for February 2-8, Doell was tied for third among league rookies with 34 assists and 58 points (24g-34a) in 50 games and ranked 16th overall in scoring. He registered a point in 13 consecutive games (8g-16a) from December 20-February 7, tying the league's second-longest season scoring streak.

He leads the Gladiators with 24 goals, eight-power-play goals, six game-winning goals, two shorthand goals, two shorthand assists, four shorthand points and 58 points (24g-34a) while ranking second on the team with 34 assists, 12 power-play assists, 20 power-play points (8g-12a) and a plus-minus rating of +18.

Doell scored two goals, including the game winner, in a 5-4 win against Charlotte on February 5 and had his fourth multiple-goal game of the season when he had a team record-tying four goals in a 7-3 win at Roanoke on February 20. The four-goal performance included the game-winning goal and three power-play goals, tying the ECHL season-high for power-play goals in a game. Doell registered seven multiple-point games in February giving him 19 multiple-point games for the season.

He has also appeared in six games for Chicago of the AHL scoring two points (1g-1a), including the game-winning goal against Utah on January 24.

Doell played four seasons at the University of Denver from 1999-2003 scoring 136 points (62g-74a) in 158 games, including 51 points (25g-26a) in 2002-03 and 43 points (20g-23a) in 2001-02.
