Rocket Score Five Powerplay Goals in 6-5 Shooutout Loss to Senators

Laval Rocket News Release
A lost battle along the boards that resulted in a shot from the slot gave the Senators a 1-0 lead over the Rocket less than halfway through the opening frame, though just as they did yesterday, the Rocket tied the game with a powerplay goal shortly thereafter. A blast from the point hit the post which allowed the Rocket to skate the puck around the net and eventually pass it to Alex Belzile, who made no mistake and sent his 14th of the season into the near-empty Belleville net. The Senators responded with their own powerplay goal to re-claim the lead three minutes after Joël Bouchard's troops tied the game, which held until the end of the period since David Sklenicka's late-period goal was refused by the referees.
A flurry of penalties in the second period resulted in four goals being scored, all while on the powerplay. Jake Evans' 13th of the season tied the game just 1:09 into the period but a pretty passing play between Belleville's Nick Paul, Logan Brown, and Erik Brannstrom made it 3-2 for the Senators a little over two minutes later. Filip Chlapik's slap shot from the top of the left faceoff circle gave Belleville their first two-goal lead of the night five minutes into the period, but a bomb from Cale Fleury brought the Rocket back to within one by period's end.
Darren Archibald added a fifth goal for the Senators halfway through the third period but Belzile was set up for his second of the night by Alexandre Grenier and Daniel Audette 13 minutes in, and when Laval's net was empty while Cody Goloubef was in the box for the Senators, Nikita Jevpalovs tied the game at five. His 10th of the season that he scored with 19 seconds remaining in the game sent the teams to overtime and then to a shooutout, where the Senators ultimately took the extra point.
"They have a great hockey team over there but I think we were the better team on the ice again," said Bouchard after the game. "It was a weird game, considering all the chances we had to score in overtime. I think as a coach you can be proud of your players, and you tell them to get some rest tomorrow."
