
Rivermen Sign Univ. of Wisconsin Defenseman Boeser

Peoria, Ill. (April 1, 2004) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that rookie defenseman Dan Boeser, who recently completed his senior season at NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin, has been signed and added to the roster.
Boeser â a 6-foot, 200-pound native of Savage, Minn. â collected a collegiate career-high eight goals along with 22 points during his senior season at Wisconsin in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), while serving as team captain; he was team captain as a junior as well. This spring, the 23-year-old helped lead Wisconsin to the 2004 NCAA Tournament East Region Final, where they lost 2-1 in overtime to No. 1-ranked Maine; he was named to the All East Region Team for his efforts. He was selected as one of five finalists for the Humanitarian Award, which recognizes U.S. college hockey's finest citizen.
Boeser was limited to 30 games with 12 assists as junior in 2002-2003 after battling cancer of the lymph nodes; he missed just 10 games during the season. As a sophomore in 2001-2002, he led Wisconsin defenseman in scoring and was ranked sixth in scoring among WCHA defenseman; he also set collegiate career-highs in assists (23) and points (28) that year. As freshman in 2000-2001, he led all WCHA defenseman in goals (4) and finished third in points (17).
Boeser enjoyed a two-year Junior "A" hockey career (1998-2000) with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL), registering 50 points (7g, 43a) in 106 career games. He was named a 2000 USHL All-Star and selected as a USHL Second Team Postseason All-Star. He was also a member of the Gamblers' 2000 USHL Clark Cup Championship Team, and the Gamblers were runners-up in the 2000 national championship tournament.
The Rivermen, a member of the ECHL â America's Premier "AA" Hockey League, face off against the archrival Dayton Bombers on the road in their regular season finale on Friday, April 2. Game time is 6:00 p.m. CT at the Nutter Center.
