Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (36-25-10) shut out the Augusta Lynx (32-32-7) 5-0 in front of 6,449 at TECO Arena on Friday night. Florida forward John McNabb (2 goals, 1 assist) and netminder Jeff Maund (stopped all 40 shots) helped Florida win their second straight game. If the Everblades win on Saturday night, they will qualify for their sixth straight Kelly Cup playoff berth after Greensboro was defeated by the Florence Pride on Friday night.
In the first period Florida came out flying and got on the scoreboard when forward John McNabb's backhander bounced off an Augusta player and found it's way past netminder Jason Saal. McNabb helped stake the Blades to a 2-0 lead when he sent a beautiful cross ice pass that Matt Pagnutti one timed past Saal on the powerplay at the 16:16 mark. Just over a minute later Florida led 3-0 when Damian Surma's shot from behind the net hit Saal in the back and landed in the net and the Blades were in command after one period.
In the second period, the two teams continued to battle back and forth but Florida would score the lone goal when Tom Buckley sent McNabb in on a breakaway which he finished off for his second goal of the night and the 36th tally of the year. The Blades led 4-0 through two periods.
In the third period Brent McDonald completed the scoring on the powerplay when he lifted a backhander past Saal for his 20th goal of the year and a 5-0 Florida lead.
Maund stopped 40 of 40 shots and picked up his fifth shutout of the season. Saal stopped 30 of 35 shots. Florida finished 2 for 4 on the power play while Augusta went 0 for 5.
