San Diego owns the all-time series match-up, posting an 84-16-5 record against its Pacific Division rival.
LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING: MARCH 21:
Brian Gornick had two goals and an assist, while David Neale chipped in with a goal and a helper, leading San Diego to a 4-2 win over the Condors. Bakersfield grabbed a 1-0 lead, but the Gulls scored three straight to go ahead 3-1. The Condors cut it back to one early in the third, but Gornick's second goal of the night midway through the period put the nail in the coffin.
GULLS UPDATE:
The Gulls (47-13-10) have already clinched first place in the Pacific Division and Western Conference... They will officially play the Alaska Aces in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs, which begins Tuesday at the Sports Arena... San Diego is now tied with the Wheeling Nailers for the best record in the ECHL, both with 104 points. Wheeling, however has clinched the tiebreaker with more wins. The Nailers have 50 wins, while the most wins the Gulls can get are 49. Wheeling plays in Trenton tonight and Atlantic City tomorrow... San Diego is 18-8-9 on the road this season and unbeaten in 14 of its last 15 away from the Sports Arena (8-1-6).
OTHER NOTES:
San Diego is unbeaten in 16 of its last 17 games overall (12-1-4)... The Gulls are 43-10-5 against Pacific Division teams... They've lost in regulation only three times in their last 36 games (26-3-7) and six times in their last 52 games (38-6-8)... The Blue and Orange have broken the ECHL record for most wins by an expansion team. The 1991-92 Toledo Storm had the previous record with 46 wins... Trevor Koenig is second in the ECHL with 35 wins and fourth with a 2.19 goals-against average. He is unbeaten in 26 of his last 28 games (20-2-6)... Mark Pederson was given the 2003-04 ECHL Sportsmanship Award, along with being named to the All-ECHL Second team. He leads the league with 44 goals and is sixth with 81 points... Greg Barber, who was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team, is tied for first among rookies with 75 points. He's second among rookies with 45 assists and tied for second with 30 goals...
PLAYERS STREAKING:
Sylvain Deschatelets' career-high and ECHL season-high 23-game point streak came to an end Wednesday against Las Vegas. He had 37 points (13g, 24a) during the streak, which is now second in all-time franchise history... Kyle Reeves still holds the record with a 26-game streak, set in 1997-98... Deschatelets is seventh in the ECHL with 80 points overall... Clayton Read has a six-game point streak (5g, 4a)... Gornick has nine points in his last six games (4g, 5a)...
BAKERSFIELD UPDATE:
The Condors (25-36-9) are fifth in the Pacific Division with 59 points... They have been mathematically eliminated from postseason play... Bakersfield has won three games in a row after going winless in seven of its previous eight games (1-5-2)... Paul Rosebush has two game-winning goals and 16 points (9g, 7a) in his last 10 games... Andrew Ianiero has a 10-game point streak (2g, 13a) dating back to March 7... The Condors are 29th on the power play (13.4 percent) and rank 30th in penalty killing (79 percent)...
TRANSACTIONS:
Rookie winger Paul Caponigri signed Wednesday... Jamie Black was moved from seven-day to 30-day injured reserve. He joins Dennis Purdie, Kevin Grant and Chris Gobert on the injured list... The Gulls have three players in the American Hockey League: Billy Tibbetts (Houston), Nick Lent (Springfield) and Josh Gratton (Cincinnati)...
