Alaska Aces News Release

LAS VEGAS – Charles Linglet scored the game-winning goal with 5:15 to play as Alaska won at Orleans Arena for the first time in five tries this season, 3-2, before 6,896 Las Vegas partisans Friday night.

A highly entertaining 20 minutes witnessed the two teams combining for 28 shots on goal, 15 by Alaska. But while Las Vegas failed to convert its two power play opportunities, the Aces scored on the man advantage for the fourth straight game to grab a 1-0 lead after the first period. Wes Dorey banged in a rebound for his 20th goal and 50th point of the year with 5:17 left in the opening frame to account for the only goal of the period.

Alaska seemed to gain control in the second period, dominating the first 15 minutes and extending its margin to 2-0 when Jordan Cameron came free behind the net and fed Chris Lipsett for a one-timer at 9:06, the latter's 22nd goal of the season. But the Aces, who had scored only five goals in their previous four trips to Vegas (all losses), started to unravel in the last five minutes in the middle frame. Louis Mass committed a turnover that led to a blast by Chris Kenady that put the home team on the board with 4:30 to go. With the Wranglers back on the power play, another turnover by Keith McCambridge led to the equalizer, scored by Eric Schneider, who, like Kenady, beat Alaska starter Dan Murphy top shelf with only 23.8 seconds on the clock.

The Aces limited Vegas to only six shots on goal in the third period, and Linglet's game-winner came on a wrist shot from the top of the circle that ticked off Marc Magliarditti's glove and trickled into the back of the net. Alaska outshot Las Vegas 37-29 and remained unbeaten in its last four games (3-0-1) while the Wranglers lost for the first time this season in a game that was tied after two periods (10-0-5 before tonight).

The Aces (38-27-6) face Pacific Division champion San Diego tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. AST in the regular season finale. The two teams take the ice Tuesday and Wednesday for Games One and Two of the 2004 Kelly Cup playoffs at 6:00 p.m. AST, with each contest being held at the San Diego Sports Arena. Alaska's games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, as well as www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play.
