Former Gull Garret Stroshein Makes It To NHL

SAN DIEGO — Former San Diego Gull right-winger Garret Stroshein made his NHL debut Thursday night with the Washington Capitals.

Stroshein began his career with the West Coast Hockey League's Gulls in 2000-01, amassing five penalty minutes in thee games. Though he did not play in any playoff games that season, he was still a member of San Diego's 2001 Taylor Cup Championship squad.

The 6-foot-7-inch, 245-pounder from Calgary, Alberta played in 24 games with the Gulls in 2001-02, accumulating 90 penalty minutes.

Since his stint in San Diego, Stroshein has played professionally with the WCHL's Fresno Falcons and Bakersfield Condors, East Coast Hockey League's Mobile Mysticks and Richmond Renegades and the American Hockey League's Portland Pirates.

Stroshein had two shots and seven penalty minutes in 11 shifts in the Capitals' 3-3 tie against the Boston Bruins Thursday. He will turn 25 on Sunday.
