Rivermen Recall Defenseman Ryan Turek

PEORIA, Ill. (January 9, 2010) - Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced today that the club has recalled defenseman Ryan Turek from the Rivermen's ECHL affiliate, the Alaska Aces.

Turek, 22, has appeared in 32 games for the Aces this season and registered six points (two goals, four assists). He made his professional debut in January of last season with Alaska after playing 14 games for Michigan State University. Turek scored three goals and assisted on three others with a plus-7 rating in 35 regular season games for the Aces. In the playoffs, he finished fourth on the team with a plus-9 rating and added one goal and six assists in 19 games.

Originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round, 94th overall, in 2006, Turek spent three years playing for Michigan State. He helped the Spartans win their first NCAA championship in 21 years in 2007, and reach the West Regional Final a year later.

He also spent one season in the North American Hockey League and two in the USHL with Omaha, where he scored 17 goals (second on the team overall, tops among defensemen) and assisted on 11 others in 52 games in 2005-06.
