Peoria Rivermen News Release
PEORIA, IL - The Chicago Wolves outshot the Peoria Rivermen 42-17 on Saturday night and turned it in to a 3-1 win at Allstate Arena. The Rivermen are now just 0-3-1 against the Wolves so far this season. Ben Bishop turned aside 39 shots but suffered his sixth regulation loss of the season.
It was just a 1-0 Wolves lead when the third period began courtesy of a Kevin Doell marker at 11:07 of the second period. Riley Holzapfel found Spencer Machacek just off the bench for a slap shot just inside the blue line. Bishop made the initial stop but left a rebound on the doorstep for Kevin Doell.
The Wolves expanded their lead on the power play at 3:51 of the third. After a Nathan Oystrick slapshot Johnny Pohl deposited the rebound into the open net for his first of the night. It marked the 15th consecutive game that the Rivermen have allowed a power-play goal.
Justin Fletcher accounted for Peoria's only goal just a few minutes later. At 5:07, he connected with a Nicholas Drazenovic feed at the side of the goal and snapped it over the glove of Drew MacIntyre. For Fletcher it was his first goal since Oct. 17 after missing over two months with an injury.
Another rebound goal sealed the win for the Wolves with 8:07 remaining in regulation. Patrick Galivan, recalled from ECHL Gwinnett, spun a shot on goal that left a rebound for Pohl parked at the side of the net. His 11th of the season was more than enough for MacIntyre who had to make just three saves in the third period.
Peoria's power play finished 0-for-2 and snapped a streak of six straight games with a power-play goal. The Rivermen were an impressive 11-for-35 (31.4 percent) over that stretch.
