Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The B-Sens took the ice for the second time in as many nights, seeking their first ever victory over the visiting Lowell Devils. Binghamton would fall just short of that goal, losing to the Devils 3-2.
Following a scoreless first, the teams exploded offensively in the second period turned. 53 seconds into the period, a streaking Michael Swift beat Binghamton goaltender Mike Brodeur to get the Devils on the board. .
Lowell increased their lead to 2-0 at the 5:31 mark, this time on the power play, when a Matt Taormina shot from just inside the blue line was tipped into the Binghamton net by Nathan Perkovich.
Less than two minutes later, at 7:19 Brandon Svendsen lighted the lamp off a cross-ice pass from Kaspars Daugavins to put Binghamton on the board, and cut the lead to 2-1.
Lowell regained their two-goal lead at 14:04 when Brodeur was unable to halt a breakaway shot by Patrick Davis. Swift and Stephen Gionta each tallied assists for their second points of the night.
The second period scoring ended with just 1:12 remaining as Daugavins settled the puck behind the net and hit a diving Svendsen just in front of the crease, who then buried the shot for his second goal of the game, to bring the B-Sens within one, 3-2.
The scoring ended there as B-Sens were unable to net the equalizer, albeit not for lack of opportunity. Binghamton outshot the Devils in the third period 25 to 4. In total the B-Sens peppered Lowell's Mike McKenna, the game's number one star, with 49 shots.
The Senators will look to rebound tomorrow night as they travel to the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y. to take on the Amerks in a 5 p.m. tilt.
