Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria, Ill. (January 6, 2005) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that rookie defenseman Aaron Forsythe has been acquired from the South Carolina Stingrays in exchange for financial considerations as part of a four-team deal involving South Carolina, the Las Vegas Wranglers and the Dayton Bombers. As part of the deal, defenseman Trevor Johnson has been traded to Las Vegas and then moved to the Stingrays.
Forsythe â a 6-foot-4, 197-pound native of Forest Lake, Minnesota â collected two assists and amassed 27 penalty minutes (PIM) in 22 games with South Carolina to open his professional career. The 23-year-old backliner enjoyed a four-year (2000-20004) NCAA Division I career with his hometown Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks. As a senior, he established single-season, collegiate career bests in assists (9) and PIM (75), and as a junior, he notched single-season, collegiate career bests in games played (39) and goals (2).
Johnson â a 5-foot-11, 200-pound native of Trail, British Columbia â tallied 10 points (3g, 7a) in 21 games with the Rivermen this season. Originally claimed off waivers on October 22 from the Trenton Titans, the 22-year-old, second-year defenseman enjoyed the first American Hockey League (AHL) call-up of his career with Hershey Bears in early December, playing three games.
The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL â The Premier "AA" Hockey League. On Friday, January 7 and Saturday, January 8, the Rivermen stop in Las Vegas to do battle with the Wranglers. Game times are 9:00 p.m. at the Orleans Arena. Brand new 6-game & 3-game ticket plans are available for the remainder of the 2004-2005 season for just $99 and $48 per seat, respectively, by calling the Rivermen at 309.676.1040 x106.
