Alaska Aces News Release

VICTORIA, BC – Chris Minard, the league leader with 19 goals after scoring two in each of Alaska's last three wins, will represent the Aces at the ECHL All-Star Game in three weeks.

The 6-1, 200-pound Minard, who turned 23 in November, has rolled up 29 points on 19 goals and 10 assists entering this weekend's play. Minard, originally from Owen Sound, Ontario, has never missed a game in his three pro seasons and returned to the ECHL this year after scoring 39 goals last season in the Central Hockey League for San Angelo. He scored 15 goals in his rookie season of 2002-03 for the Pensacola Ice Pilots before bolting to the CHL.

Minard has enjoyed four two-goal games for the Aces, including his last three outings, when he scored the game-winner with 32 seconds left in overtime against San Diego December 31 and added an assist for a three-point night in Tuesday's 6-3 triumph at Victoria before scoring twice more to go along with a pair of helpers in Wednesday's 10-3 rout of the Salmon Kings. He also scored the game-winner in a 2-1 decision at Fresno November 6.

"Chris deserves to go to Reading, he's done exactly what we've asked of him this year," said Alaska head coach Davis Payne. "He's not afraid to go to the net, works hard at the defensive end, and for a goal-scorer, he plays with a certain edge that everyone in our locker room appreciates, including me."

The 2005 ECHL All-Star Game will be played January 26 in Reading, Pa., about an hour from Philadelphia and home to the Reading Royals, who play in the North Division of the National Conference.

The Aces, now 16-12-2 and tied for third place in the West Division after taking two straight from Victoria earlier this week, return home for two more games against the Salmon Kings (7-18-3) Friday and Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off. Both games will be broadcast live on flagship station KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, where the games also can be seen on a pay-per-view basis, courtesy of B2 Networks.
