Alaska Aces News Release
VICTORIA, BC â The first two goals of Vladimir Novak's pro career highlighted a night when five different Aces scored twice in Alaska's third straight win, a 10-3 whipping of Victoria Wednesday night at Bear Mountain Arena.
Novak gave the Aces an early lead they would never relinquish on a redirection of Ryan Moren's drive from the high slot just 2:40 into the first period. Alaska took control of the game late in the first, as Scott Gomez found Charles Linglet all alone in the left circle for a power play tally at 16:47, and Ryan Moren tucked in a shot from a similar position with 1:11 remaining before intermission . Chris Heisten pushed the margin to 4-0 at 7:02 of the second period before Victoria finally got on the board, as Rob Voltera converted a power play for the Salmon Kings at 9:20. Exactly 48 seconds later, Heisten struck again with his second of the night and fourth in two games on a wrist shot from between the circles. Linglet continued the onslaught with his second of the night and 11th of the year less than two minutes later, again set up by Gomez, who completed his night with four assists. Moren registered his second of the night with 6:13 to play in the second period to give Alaska a 7-1 bulge, and Chris Minard followed barely a minute later to extend the lead to seven goals. David Neale brought Victoria within 8-2 at 16:04, but Minard struck again on an Aces power play with 1:05 left in the period, his second goal in four minutes and 19th of the year, tops in the ECHL.
The two teams swapped goals in the final period, with Seth Leonard scoring at 4:15 for the Salmon Kings and Novak picking up his second of both the night and the year with 7:52 left in the game. Heisten, who had not scored since October 23 entering Tuesday night's action, finished with two goals and an assist, the same scoring line as Moren, while Linglet and Minard each had two goals and a pair of helpers and Mike Scott contributed three assists. Lance Mayes, playing in his hometown, recorded 23 saves to collect the win between the pipes.
The Aces, now a season-high four games over .500 at 16-12-2 and tied for third place in the West Division, return home for two more games against the Salmon Kings (7-18-3) Friday and Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off. Both games will be broadcast live on flagship station KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, where the games also can be seen on a pay-per-view basis, courtesy of B2 Networks.
