Sacramento River Cats News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - In their first game since the All-Star break, the Sacramento River Cats (39-52) fell behind early Thursday night to the Salt Lake Bees (46-45), and a late comeback stalled resulting in a 9-4 loss.

River Cats starter Daniel Camarena got into immediate trouble, allowing three runs (two earned) before recording an out in the first inning, but then shut down the Bees from there on out. Camarena finished with three strikeouts, five hits allowed, and just the two earned runs in five innings pitched.

After stringing together a few hits in the fourth inning, Sacramento got on the board when a Eury Perez sacrifice fly scored Jerry Sands to make the score 3-1. Trailing 6-1 in the eighth inning, the River Cats cut into the deficit with three more runs, highlighted by a perfect RBI-bunt single from Kelby Tomlinson. The Bees added on in the ninth, however, with their second three-run home run of the night to put the game out of reach at 9-4.

In game two of this series tomorrow, the River Cats will send right-hander Casey Kelly (8-6, 5.15) to the mound and the Bees will counter with fellow righty Luis Pena (1-2, 6.64). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT). Catch all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, and on the air on Money 105.FM.

- After playing 78 games this season with Double-A Richmond, Sands went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in his first game with the River Cats. Sands homered for the River Cats in their exhibition game with the San Francisco Giants on March 24.

- The bottom of the order produced for the River Cats on Thursday, as the seventh hitter Trevor Brown went 2-for-3 with a run and ninth-place hitter Eury Perez drove in two runs.
