Salt Lake Bees News Release
The Salt Lake Bees used the long ball to snap a five game losing streak in a 9-4 win over the Sacramento River Cats on Thursday night.
After Luis Rengifo reached on an error and Matt Thaiss singled, Taylor Ward drove a 1-1 pitch over the 380 foot mark in right center to give Salt Lake a 3-0 lead. It was 3-1 when the Bees added three more runs in the sixth. Nolan Fontana walked, was sacrificed to second by Francisco Arcia and scored on a single to center by Ben Revere. One out later, Revere came home on a two run homer by Matt Thaiss. Sacramento scored three runs in the eighth to pull to within two before Fontana ripped a three run shot into the right field bullpen for a five run lead.
Akeel Morris (2-3) tossed two scoreless innings to earn the win after starter Osmer Morales only went four innings. He allowed just one run on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Eduardo Paredes pitched two scoreless innings to record his fourth save. Ward went 3 for 3 with three runs batted in and is now 18 for 29 in his last eight games. Thaiss added three hits with two RBI. Revere had one single to extend his hitting streak to six games, while Fontana added one hit, three RBI and he walked twice.
