Sacramento River Cats News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. "" 15,234 fans took part in the Independence Day celebration in West Sacramento, but watched their Sacramento River Cats (50-37) lose 3-0 to the Fresno Grizzlies (43-45) on Thursday night at a sold-out Raley Field.

Grizzlies first baseman Travis Ishikawa took Cats starter Zach Neal (2-3, 4.68 ERA) deep in the top of the fourth, smacking a two-run homer over the 380-feet marker in right-center field to give Fresno the early 2-0 advantage. The blast was Ishikawa's eighth on the season and he finished the game 1-for-3 with a run scored, two RBI, a walk, and a strikeout.

Fresno picked up its third run of the ballgame in unique fashion. In the top of the sixth inning, second baseman Adalberto Sanchez took advantage of a miscue by Sacramento catcher Luis Exposito, scoring from third with two outs on a throwing-error back to the pitcher by the River Cats catcher.

The Cats offense was unable to get things going, leaving eight runners on base and going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. First baseman Anthony Aliotti went 2-for-2 with a walk for the River Cats, while right fielder Josh Whitaker also collected two hits in front of the club's fourth packed-house of the year.

Neal was the hard-luck loser for Sacramento, tossing seven innings and allowing three runsâˆ'two earnedâˆ'on four hits and two walks and tied a season-high with eight strikeouts. Reliever Austin House made his season-debut with the Cats, pitching two innings and giving up no runs with two walks and a strikeout.

Picking up the victory for the Grizzlies was Sacramento State-alum Mitch Lively (5-4, 5.22 ERA), who hurled 6.1 scoreless innings, scattering six hits with two walks while striking out five River Cats. Earning his first save of 2014 for Fresno was Erik Cordier, pitching a perfect final frame to secure the win.

Next on the schedule for Sacramento is a three-game series with the Reno Aces at Aces Ballpark. Righty Arnold Leon (8-2, 4.55 ERA) takes the ball for the River Cats against Reno lefty Andrew Chafin (2-2, 5.70 ERA) with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

The Sacramento River Cats make their way back to Raley Field for Fireworks Friday on July 11th, hosting the Reno Aces for the first time this season for a three-game set before the Pacific Coast League All-Star break. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will pick up a Brandon Moss Home Grown Garden Gnome before the game's 7:05 p.m. first-pitch start.
