Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
In front of the second-largest crowd at Security Service Field this season, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (38-49) took care of business against the Oklahoma City RedHawks (45-43) winning 6-2 to pick up their first series win since May 6th-9th against Nashville.
The Sky Sox drew a record 51,919 fans during the eight-day homestand, including 8,813 on Thursday night's Independence Day celebration.
Despite some rain early on, the Sky Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when the Sox loaded the bases and Kyle Parker plated Jason Pridie when he grounded into a double play and Angelys Nina hit an RBI-single to score Rafael Ynoa.
Exactly 13 years since throwing a no-hitter against OKC as a member of the Tacoma Rainiers, RHP Brett Tomko (2-0) produced a strong start this time around as well. In six innings of work, the 41-year-old allowed just two runs on six hits while striking out three batters and walking zero.
The RedHawks scored their only two runs in the third to tie the game up thanks to an RBI-double from Robbie Grossman and an RBI-single from Jonathan Villar in the next at-bat.
The game remained tied in a deadlock until Tim Wheeler broke the tie with an RBI-triple down the right field line. Jackson Williams plated Wheeler three batters later with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Sox tacked on two more in the seventh with Ben Paulsen's RBI-double off the left-field wall and Nina's RBI-single to plate Paulsen to give the Sox a four-run lead.
RHP Manny Corpas came on to hold the lead with two strong innings, allowing just one walk and one hit while striking out two.
Ynoa, who has been on a tear since the start of June, notched his 20th multi-hit game of the season with a three-hit affair to raise his average to .292.
Nina and Pridie also collected two hits, while Nina collected a multi-RBI game as well.
RHP Jake Buchanan (6-5) picked up the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings of work with four walks and one strikeout.
The Sky Sox will go on seven-game road trip beginning on Friday when they travel to Omaha to take on the Storm Chasers. LHP Brian Burres (0-3, 8.68 ERA) will take on Omaha's LHP John Lamb (4-7, 4.04 ERA).
