Zephyrs Fall to Memphis 3-2

Memphis, Tennessee - Memphis starter Tim Cooney pitched into the ninth inning and defeated the New Orleans Zephyrs 3-2 in front of 12,617 fans at Autozone Park.

Cooney (8-5) scattered six hits and allowed two runs to earn his eighth win of the season. The Z's picked up four of the six hits in the fourth inning. New Orleans drilled three consecutive singles to lead off the inning. Cooney then pitched back to back strike outs. Kyle Jensen batted with two outs and drilled a base hit scoring a pair of runs.

Z's starter Brian Flynn (7-6) pitched six innings and allowed three runs in the loss. The Redbirds scored all three runs in the third inning. Stephen Piscotty picked up a two out double that plated a pair of runs. Xaver Scruggs then dropped a bloop single into right to score a third run.

The Z's have dropped three consecutive fourth of July games by one run and have played in five consecutive. New Orleans is now 11-11 on Independence day.

The Zephyrs and Redbirds meet Saturday at 6PM.
