Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers Friday announced that they have purchased the contract of RHP Neftali Feliz from the Round Rock Express. He will be in uniform and available for the Rangers tonight in New York.

Feliz, 26, has spent the entire season with Round Rock, going 1-1 with a 3.14 ERA and seven saves in 24 appearances. The right-hander struck out 31 and walked just eight in 28.2 innings of work. Since June 10, Feliz was a perfect 7-for-7 in save opportunities, allowing just one earned run on four hits over 11 innings.

In 2010, Feliz had a career year as the Rangers' closer, going 4-3 with a 2.73 ERA and 40 saves, a Major League record for a rookie at the time. On July 4, Feliz was named to his first MLB All-Star Game and following the season earned American League Rookie of the Year honors.

After a solid 2011 campaign, the right-hander suffered an elbow injury in 2012 and underwent Tommy John Surgery on August 1 that cut into a large portion of his 2013 season.

Feliz, who originally signed with Atlanta as a free agent in 2005, was acquired by the Rangers, along with four other players, in the 2007 seven-player trade that sent 1B Mark Teixeira to the Braves. After racing through the Texas farm system as a starter, Feliz cracked the big league roster in 2009 as a relief pitcher.

As a corresponding move, RHP Ben Rowen has been optioned back to Round Rock after making eight appearances with the Rangers. He went 0-0 with a 4.15 ERA in 8.2 innings of work at the big league level.
