Lively Pitching Lifts Fresno over Sacramento 3-0

West Sacramento, Ca.---Fresno Grizzlies (43-45) right-handed starter Mitch Lively (5-4) pitched 6 1/3 innings as he led his squad to a 3-0 win over the Sacramento River Cats (50-37) on Thursday night at Raley Field in front of a beyond sellout of 15, 234. Lively, who went to school at Sacramento State allowe six hits, two walks, and struck out five.

The Grizzlies and River Cats split the four-game series 2-2. It was the fourth pitched shutout for Fresno this year. The Grizzlies finished 3-5 at Raley Field this year.

The only runs the Grizzlies needed were courtesy of a two-run homer by first baseman Travis Ishikawa (8). He drove the ball out to right-center in the fourth inning against River Cats right-handed starter Zach Neal (2-3). It was Ishikawa's second homer of the series.

Left-hander Dan Runzler struck out two in his 1 2/3 innings and right-hander Eric Cordier (1) earned the save with a perfect ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts.

The other Fresno run scored a throwing error by Sacramento catcher Luis Exposito on a ball that got away on his throw back to Neal in the sixth inning. Fresno second baseman Adalberto Santos scored from third.

Neal gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits. He walked two, and struck out eight while allowing a homer.

Fresno celebrates the Fourth of July at home in its first meeting this year against Tacoma. The Fireworks Extravaganza will have a first pitch of 7:05 p.m. Left-hander Edwin Escobar will start for Fresno against Tacoma right-hander Andrew Carraway. It'll be the start of a three-game series against the Rainiers. Sacramento will come in after that for four games.
