Rainers Pour It on in the Sixth, Drop Aces 5-1

TACOMA, WA - All was well for Charles Brewer in his return to the mound for the Reno Aces Thursday night in Tacoma. That was until the Rainiers busted through and plated four runs in the sixth inning to lead them to a 5-1 win in the series finale at Cheney Stadium.
Brewer had just returned from Double-A Mobile and breezed through Tacoma's lineup early in the night. He retired the first nine batters he faced and saw just one over the minimum through five innings.
With Brewer sharp on the bump, the Aces grabbed the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Ronny Cedeno led off the inning with a single to left-field, then swiped second base. He moved to third on a single by Tony Campana and scored the first run of the game on Danny Dorn's fielder's choice.
That's all the offense the Aces would get, despite putting a runner at third with less than two outs several times throughout the night.
The bottom of the sixth started with a double off the bat of Rainiers catcher Humberto Quintero. After a sacrifice bunt moved Quintero to third, lead-off hitter Chris Taylor lined a base-hit into right-center to even the game at 1-1.
Two consecutive singles off the bats off Abraham Almonte and Justin Smoak loaded the bases and ended the night for Brewer. Eury De La Rosa was summoned from the bullpen and promptly allowed a two-run double to Ji-Man Choi to give Tacoma a 3-1 lead. A relay throw from Cedeno to Bobby Wilson cut down Smoak at the plate for the second out of the inning.
Tacoma wasn't done as Nick Franklin followed Choi's double with one of his own to make it 4-1. In all, the Rainiers scored four runs on seven hits in the inning.
Reno's offense continued to put runners on base but failed to drive them in. They finished the night just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Jordan Pries got the win for Tacoma and improved to 2-0 against Reno in 2014. Pries has allowed just two runs in 18 innings against the Aces. Brewer was tagged with the loss despite the hot start.
The Aces return home for a three-game series with the front-running Sacramento River Cats. Left-hander Andrew Chafin (2-2, 5.70) gets the ball for Reno against right-hander Arnold Leon (8-2, 4.55) for Sacramento. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
