Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Shane Peterson hit a solo homer for the River Cats-his sixth of the season-providing Sacramento's only offense in a game that saw the Reno Aces score in three consecutive innings to put away the Cats with a 8-1 loss on Friday night at Raley Field
Peterson got the offense rolling in the second inning, taking Aces starter Mike Bolsinger deep to right-center field to spot the Cats a 1-0 lead. The lead would last until the fourth inning, when Reno put up four runs with two outs on Sacramento starter Dan Straily to take the lead for good. Juan Rivera started the scoring, driving in Chris Owings with an RBI single. After a Brad Snyder single put runners at first and third, Alfredo Marte did the damage for the Aces with a three-run shot to left field to give Reno a 4-1 advantage.
From there the Aces added on with runs in the fifth and sixth inning, scoring off of RBI doubles from Matt Davidson and Tuffy Gosewisch. Davidson got to Straily first, lining his double to left to bring home the speedy Tony Campana. Gosewisch followed in the sixth, slapping a hard grounder past Cats third baseman Andy Parrino to score Tyler Bortnick.
The six runs he surrendered tonight were the most Straily has given up with the Cats since giving up six against Colorado Springs on August 28, 2012, though only two were earned. Peterson's home run to deep right-center field was his first since June 2. All six of the outfielder's homers this season have come against right-handed pitching.
Mike Bolsinger was credited with the win for Reno. Despite giving up nine hits and walking two, the right-hander was able to strand 10 Sacramento base runners off of the effort of 10 strikeouts in 6.0 innings on the mound. Meanwhile, Straily suffered his first loss of the season at Triple-A, giving up six runs-two earned-on nine hits against six strikeouts.
The River Cats return to the Raley Field on Sutter Health Fireworks Saturday for the third installment of their four-game series with the Aces. Left-hander Andrew Werner (7-9, 5.83) will get the start for the Cats, with fellow southpaw Tyler Skaggs (5-6, 4.79 ERA) set to oppose him for Reno.
