Rusin Shuts Down Omaha Once Again

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (35-46) lost their third consecutive game with a 5-1 defeat at the hands of the division-leading Iowa Cubs (41-41), as Iowa starter Chris Rusin continued his dominance of the Storm Chasers in the three years he has faced Omaha with seven innings allowing one run.
Rusin allowed his lone run to the Storm Chasers in the first inning on a pair of hits, but then proceeded to hold the Omaha offense to only three baserunners over the final six innings of his outing. Rusin tossed a complete game shutout earlier this season against the Chasers, and in six career starts against Omaha the left-hander is 4-0 while allowing only nine runs in 39.0 total innings.
Storm Chasers starter Justin Marks allowed four runs in five innings of work, allowing double-digit hits for a second straight outing, and now the southpaw has suffered the loss in seven consecutive starts. The string of losses has seen the Storm Chasers bats put up only ten runs in Marks' seven outings, and he has the lowest average run support of any Omaha starter this season at 1.8 runs per game.
Despite the disappointing results on the field, it was a milestone day in Storm Chasers history as Werner Park saw the 1,000,000th fan pass through the gates prior to Friday's game. Werner Park has opened its doors for 173 Storm Chasers games in the two plus years of the stadium's history attracting 1,003,015 fans, or an average of 5,798 per game.
Second baseman Johnny Giavotella extended his team-high hitting streak to 10 games with two hits on the night, and during the streak Gio is batting .472 (17-for-36). Centerfielder Paulo Orlando continued his hot hitting since returning from the disabled list on June 19 as he notched his fourth straight multi-hit game, accounting for half of his multi-hit games this season.
In the third game of the series Omaha sends out left-hander Chris Dwyer (5-5, 3.52 ERA), who has put together a quality start in 10 of his 15 starts this season. Dwyer will match up with right-hander Nick Struck (4-5, 6.05 ERA), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
