Clevenger Optioned to Iowa

Papillion, NE - The Chicago Cubs have activated C Steve Clevenger from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to the Iowa Cubs. With the addition of Clevenger, Iowa's active roster stands at 24 players.

Clevenger has been on Chicago's disabled list since April 14 with a strained oblique. He batted .327 (17-for-52) with five doubles, three homers, 14 runs scored, and 11 RBI in 15 games on Major League rehab with Iowa from June 3-21. He was 1-for-8 with Chicago prior to his injury. Entering this season, Clevenger had a career .309 (566-for-1829) average in 548 minor league games, including a .310 (102-for-329) mark with four homers and 44 RBI in 98 games with Iowa over the last two seasons.

In a corresponding move, the Cubs transferred RH Zach Putnam to the 60-day disabled list. Putnam started the season with Iowa and was 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA (7ER/19.1IP) and four saves in 17 games before getting called up on May 30. He has a bone spur in his right elbow.

The Cubs play game three of a four-game series against the Omaha Storm Chasers tonight at 7:05 at Werner Park. RH Nick Struck (4-5, 6.05 ERA) will start for the Cubs against lefty Chris Dwyer (5-5, 3.52 ERA) for the Storm Chasers. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940, and streamed at iowacubs.com, with the pre-game show starting at 6:45.
