Tucson Padres News Release

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox scored three runs in the fourth inning on way to a 5-2 win over the Tucson Padres Saturday at Security Service Field.

The Sky Sox had a chance to take an early lead in the first, but center fielder Jaff Decker threw out Reid Brignac trying to score on a sacrifice fly attempt. The outfield assist was Decker's seventh and the double play was the fourth he has been part of this season. Tucson also had a chance to go ahead in the top of the second with the bases loaded and one out, but Rene Rivera was called out for interference on a force play at second to end the inning with a double play.

Colorado Springs went ahead 3-0 in the fourth on consecutive RBI hits from Ryan Wheeler, Ben Paulsen and Greg Golson. Rivera put the Padres on the board in the seventh with a two-out RBI single to center. The next batter, Jonathan Galvez, barley missed hitting a game-tying home run, but settled for an RBI double off the top of the left field wall to cut the Sky Sox lead to 3-2. Colorado Springs added a run in bottom of the seventh off Ryan Wheeler's sacrifice fly and one more in the eighth on a wild pitch. The Padres had the tying run at the plate with one out in the ninth, but Sky Sox closer Logan Kensing was able to get a double play to end the game.

Chris Volstad (5-1) was the winning pitcher for Colorado Springs after pitching seven innings and allowing two runs. Josh Geer (0-1) was charged with the loss in his 2013 Tucson debut. Geer allowed three runs on five hits in four innings. Padres shortstop Dean Anna went hitless in four at-bats, ending his hitting streak at 16 games, the fourth longest in team history.
