WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - The Ontario Reign (7-3-0-2), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, routed the Utah Grizzlies (3-5-1-2) by a 3-2 score in front of a crowd of 4,241 on Friday night at Maverik Center.

The Reign controlled much of a scoreless first period, outshooting the Grizzlies by a 15-7 margin, with forward Matt White leading the way with four shots in the opening frame.

In the second period, goaltender Joe Cannata remained perfect for Ontario, at one point stopping Brent Gwidt on a shorthanded breakaway. The Reign also widened their lead in shots on goal over Utah, posting 10 in the middle frame while only surrendering five.

In the third period, Ontario went to the penalty kill at 1:10 when White was whistled for hooking, but the Reign managed to to take advantage of an errant Grizzlies breakout, and Jeff May fed the puck along to Maxim Kitsyn, who raced into the zone and beat Utah goalie Ryan Faragher for a shorthanded goal at 2:27.

Moments later, Ontario extended its lead to two goals when Tyler Spurgeon fed a beautiful backhand pass into the slot to Derek Couture, who snapped it past Faragher at 5:08, with White getting the secondary assist.

Further along in the period, Couture was called for slashing at 7:37, and on the resulting power-play for the Grizzlies, Barry Almeida moved the puck past Cannata during a goalmouth scramble to get Utah on the board.

It appeared that the Reign had put the game away with Geoff Walker's empty-net goal at 16:40, but the Grizzlies continued to press late, as they managed another power-play goal, with Michael Colavecchia pulling the score to within one at 19:53. Utah couldn't muster any further offense, so Walker's tally stood up as the eventual game-winner.

Cannata picked up the victory for Ontario with 21 saves; Faragher earned the loss with 32 stops.
