The Jackals look for the weekend sweep against the Evansville Icemen in the third of six meetings this season and the second of four at First Arena. Elmira is 2-0-0 against Evansville this season and 9-1-1 all-time since the Icemen joined the ECHL in the 2012-13 season. Last night the Jackals overcame a third period deficit for the third consecutive game and spoiled Dwight Mullins' return to the Twin Tiers with a 4-2 victory. Ryan Rashid, Nick Tuzzolino and Rob Florentino notched their first goals of the season and Thomas Nesbitt's second of the year proved to be the game-winner. Florentino's tally was his first professional goal and Stefano Momesso added an assist in his pro debut. Sam Marotta stopped 17 of 19 shots faced for his second win of the season.
Last night the Jackals opened a stretch in which they play 10 of their next 12 games at First Arena. Elmira has been strong in the early going on its own ice, going 4-1-1 to open the 2014-14 campaign. The Jackals host former head coach Dwight Mullins and the Evansville Icemen four times before November comes to an end. Elmira will also host South Carolina and Wichita for its only meetings this year against either squad during its extended home stand.
Taylor Stefishen is currently tied for second in the league among rookies with 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) in 11 games this season. Stefishen's 10 helpers are tops among first-year players.
