Indy Fuel News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - In the second of four head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel clamped down in a dramatic third period to defeat the Wheeling Nailers by a final score of 3-2 on Saturday at the Fairgrounds Coliseum. With the win, the Fuel improved to 3-5-2-1 overall this season and with 9 points, climbed into a tie for sixth place in the ECHL's North Division standings.

In a physical, hard-fought first period, the Fuel grabbed an early lead at 5:30 when leading Indy scorer Robert Czarnik spiked home his seventh goal of the season with Fuel center Patrick Cullen notching the lone assist on the play. Wheeling scratched back to tie the game with a Riley Brace shorthanded score at 13:49 before a Patrick McGrath one-timer at 17:57 made it 2-1 Nailers heading into the first intermission.

In the middle frame, Indy centerman Matt White delivered the period's lone goal, a power-play marker from the left circle at 10:31, assisted by Dean Chelios and Garett Bembridge. In the third, Czarnik struck again, this time with the extra skater at 3:59, to stake the Fuel to a 3-2 lead that thanks to a determined defensive effort down the stretch resulted in a nail-biting victory for the Fuel in front of 5,349 fans at the Fairgrounds Coliseum.
