Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds began a six-game homestand against the Nashville Sounds on Wednesday night with a 12-4 loss at AutoZone Park to begin out the second half of the 2023 season.
In his first plate appearance as a Memphis Redbird, second baseman Jose Fermin smoked a home run over the left-field wall to put Memphis on the board. In his Redbirds debut, the right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 with the last.
In addition to Fermin's multi-hit day, the first three in the Memphis order all recorded two base hits. Shortstop Masyn Winn reached base three times, center fielder Josh Palacios went 2-for-4, as did catcher Ivan Herrera. Herrera also added a pair of RBI.
Tommy Parsons allowed seven runs on eight hits, walked three, struck out five and allowed three home runs in 4.0 innings on Wednesday. James Naile entered in the top of the fifth with the bases loaded and no out. The right-handed reliever struck out one and rolled a double play to escape the jam unscathed.
The Redbirds (39-37) return to AutoZone Park on Thursday, June 29 to continue a six-game homestand at 7:05p.m. CDT against the Nashville Sounds.
