
Red Wings pull off sweep in two-game set

(Allentown, Pa) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (35-41) rallied back down 6-1 to tie the game late, but the Rochester Red Wings (38-39) prevailed by winning 8-7. The Red Wings combined to record 34 hits and 27 runs in the series.
Jordany Valdespin hit an RBI single off Jose Taveras in the top of the second to give Rochester a 1-0 lead. Jaylin Davis scored on an RBI groundout by Tomas Telis to extend the lead to 2-0. The Red Wings scored two runs off Tom Windle in the top of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. Nick Gordon hit an RBI double to score Drew Maggi and Wilin Rosario hit an RBI single to score Gordon.
Lehigh Valley scored their first run of the game as Deivy Grullon homered off Devin Smeltzer in the bottom of the fourth inning. The home run for Grullon was his 11th of the season.
Rochester scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 6-1. Zander Wiel homered off Luke Leftwich in the fifth inning and hit an RBI single off Austin Davis in the sixth inning.
The IronPigs scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 6-6. Ali Castillo scored on a balk while Austin Listi hit an RBI single. Phil Gosselin hit a three-run home run to tie the game scoring Jan Hernandez and Listi.
The Red Wings scored two runs in the ninth inning against Kyle Dohy (1-4) to take an 8-6 lead. The Pigs got a run in the bottom of the ninth inning against Ian Krol to cut the lead to 8-7. Krol would get Nick Williams to ground out to second base to end the game and earn his third save of the season. Carlos Torres (1-0) earned the win for Rochester.
Lehigh Valley's homestand continues Friday night as they welcome in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park.
