Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Durham, North Carolina - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (4-1) dropped their first game of the season, a 6-1 loss to the Durham Bulls (1-4), on Wednesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
A two-out rally in the first inning stole two runs for the Bulls. A perfectly executed double steal allowed Justyn-Henry Malloy to scamper home with the game's first run before Jacob Melton scored on an error to make it 2-0.
Dom Keegan homered to begin the fourth off 'Pigs starter Bryse Wilson (0-1) to extend the deficit to 3-0. A single and hit by pitch put two runners on with a groundout moving both runners into scoring position. With the infield in, a groundball to second produced a play at the plate with Raynel Delgado beating the throw to make it 4-0. An RBI groundout from Victor Mesa Jr. followed to make it 5-0. Wilson was charged with five runs (four earned) on four hits and a walk, striking out five in 4.2 innings.
Felix Reyes swatted his first homer of the year in the sixth to get the 'Pigs on the board. That run was cancelled out by a Keegan RBI single in the eighth.
Jesse Scholtens (1-0) got the win for Charlotte, working five scoreless and allowing just two hits, striking out four.
Orion Kerkering appeared for the second straight game on his rehab assignment and threw a perfect seventh, striking out one.
The 'Pigs will look to rebound on Thursday, April 2nd as they send Alan Rangel (0-0, 1.93) to the mound against Logan Workman (0-1, 21.60) for Durham.
