Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
MOOSIC, PA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have had four players selected for the 2019 Triple-A All-Star Game. Mike Ford, Ryan McBroom, Kyle Higashioka and J.P. Feyereisen will be representing the RailRiders July 10 at Southwest University Park in El Paso, Texas.
Ford, 26, made his big league debut earlier this season appearing in 10 games with the New York Yankees April 18 - May 3. The slugging first baseman is 4th in the International League in batting average (.325), T-4th in home runs (18), T-8th in RBI (47), 2nd in OBP (.424), 1st in SLG (.665), and 1st in OPS (1.089). He has previously been a midseason all-star in Single-A with Charleston in 2014, High-A with Tampa in 2015 and Double-A with Trenton in 2017.
McBroom, 27, is in his second full season in the Yankees organization since being acquired in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2017. After batting .295 over 96 games with the RailRiders in his debut season in Triple-A, the numbers have gotten better for the West Virginia University product. In 65 games with the RailRiders so far this season, McBroom ranks 6th in the I.L. in batting average (.319), 3rd in SLG (.601), 5th in OPS (.990), 8th in hits (76), T-10th in doubles (19), 6th in extra-base hits (35), 8th in total bases (143) and 3rd in runs (53). Like Ford, McBroom has also now made a midseason all-star team at every full-season level he has played: Single-A (Lansing, 2015), High-A (Dunedin, 2016), Double-A (New Hampshire, 2017).
Higashioka, 29, is currently overseas as a third catcher for the Yankees as the team plays a series against the Boston Red Sox in London, England. The catcher was recalled by the Yankees earlier this season between April 12-24 and appeared in four games for New York. otherwise, over 40 games with the RailRiders, Higashioka has swatted 12 home runs this season and is on pace to surpass his career high set back in 2016. In his last 12 games, the Huntington Beach, CA native has six homers heating up right before the All-Star Break. This marks the third midseason all-star team he has made in his career in addition to 2015 with High-A Tampa and 2016 with Double-A Trenton.
Feyereisen, 26, is the lone RailRiders pitcher named by the International League to its all-star team this season. The right-hander boasts a 6-0 record out of the bullpen this season over 24 appearances, with a 2.21 ERA and four saves. He ranks top-5 in the league among qualified relief pitchers in lowest batting average against (2nd, .134), highest K/9.0 IP ratio (2nd, 13.50) and fewest baserunners per 9.0 IP (3rd, 8.35). Over his last seven appearances dating to June 5, the two-time all-star has allowed two hits over 10.0 shutout innings while striking out 17 batters. Feyereisen's other midseason all-star nomination came in 2016 with the Akron RubberDucks (Double-A, Cleveland Indians).
The last time the RailRiders had four players representing them in the International League All-Star Game was 2016 (Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Ben Gamel, Chad Green). The 32nd edition of this All-Star Game pits the International League All-Stars against the top players from the Pacific Coast League.
