June 27, 2019 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Steve Pearce delivered a go-ahead RBI double in the fifth inning, but the Syracuse Mets came from behind to down the Pawtucket Red Sox, 4-3, on Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
Pearce, playing in his seventh game with the PawSox during a rehab assignment for a back strain, went 1-for-3 with the RBI double, a walk and two runs scored. The 2018 World Series MVP played seven innings at first base.
After the PawSox (31-46) climbed ahead 3-1 in the fifth inning, the Mets (39-40) responded by scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to sweep the brief two-game series at the outset of Pawtucket's five-game road trip.
In the second game of his new rehab assignment, Tzu-Wei Lin (knee, shoulder) went 0-for-4 out of the leadoff spot for the PawSox.
PawSox starter Kyle Hart tossed four innings of one-run ball, and right-hander Domingo Tapia followed with two hitless innings in which he touched 100 MPH on the radar gun. Travis Lakins (L, 2-1) ceded three runs in an inning - the first runs he's allowed in Triple-A since mid-May. Trevor Kelley, who earlier in the day was named an International League All-Star, lowered his ERA to 0.98.
Syracuse starter Ervin Santana allowed three runs in five innings, and hard-throwing reliever Tyler Bashlor (W, 3-2) fired two perfect innings with four strikeouts.
The PawSox now continue their road trip in Rochester, where they open a three-game series Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Frontier Field. PawSox right-hander Teddy Stankiewicz (4-4, 3.45 ERA) is scheduled to oppose Red Wings lefty Lewis Thorpe (3-4, 5.71). Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM and 104.7 FM) and throughout the PawSox Radio Network begins with the pre-game show at 6:35 p.m.
Following the five-game road trip, the PawSox return to McCoy Stadium on Monday-Wednesday (July 1-3) for a three-game series against the New York Yankees' Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Patriotic Post-Game Fireworks will follow all three night games - all of which begin at 6:05 p.m. Then when the PawSox are home July 12 (Friday) following the All-Star Break, the first 3,000 fans will receive a Jackie Bradley Jr. Gold Glove bobblehead at McCoy Stadium. On July 14 (Sunday), the first 4,000 fans will receive a PawSox cap, compliments of the Rhode Island Lottery & WEEI-FM.
Good tickets are available, and fans can visit the McCoy Stadium box office, which is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m., and during all home games. Fans can also call (401) 724-7300 or log on to PawSox.com for tickets.
