Charlotte trails the Stingrays by three points in the Southern Division. The Rays have a mark of 2-1 this season against the Checkers with one win coming at Cricket Arena. The Stingrays will play the Checkers in four of their next ten games.

Friday, January 30 @ Florida 7:30 @ TECO Arena

This will be the Rays second visit to TECO Arena this season. The Stingrays beat Florida 6-1 in the last visit on January 2. The Stingrays are 1-1 this year against the Everblades.

Florida sits in second place in the Southern Division with a record of 23-14-7 and 53 points. The Everblades have lost two straight and have a mark of 5-3-2 in their last ten games. Florida is 14-3-3 at home this season.

Saturday, January 24 Stingrays 2 Vs Gwinnett 0

Kirk Daubenspeck earned his second shut out of the season with a 33 save performance. Daubenspeck leads the Stingrays with 16 wins. Robin Gomez netted the game winner, his third goal this season against the Gladiators, and Jim Lorentz netted his fourth goal of the season.

The Team:

The Stingrays are all alone in fourth place in the Southern Division with a record of 22-14-2. The Rays have multiple games in hand on every other team in the division as they get set for a four game road trip with two in Charlotte and two in Florida. The Rays are 6-3-1 in their last ten games and have improved to 12-8 at home. South Carolina has just one win in its last three road games. The Stingrays are 13-8-1 against teams in the Southern Division and 9-6-1 against the other divisions. The Rays are 3-1 in overtime games, 2-1 in shootout games and 9-1-1 in one goal games overall. When they score first, the Stingrays are 16-4-2. South Carolina has allowed just 2.63 goals against per game this season which ranks tenth in the league. Offensively the team is ranked 17th averaging just 2.92 goals per game.

The Players:

Kirk Daubenspeck continued to play extremely well this week with a 33 save shut out over Gwinnett. It was his second shut out of the season. His record is 16-7-1 and he has a goals against average of 2.49 which keeps him among the league leaders, along with his save percentage of .924. Daubenspeck has won five of his last six starts with a GAA of 2.32. Ed Courtenay has 14 points in his last ten games on eight goals and 14 assists. He now has 69 career goals with the Stingrays, which moves him past Greg Schmidt in to sixth place on the All-Time list. Defenseman Chris Allen has ten points on five goals and five assists in his last ten games. He is fourth on the team in scoring with 24 points on ten goals and 14 assists.

Spiewak Proves Speediest of All

Kevin Spiewak represented the Stingrays at the ECHL All-Star Game in Peoria, IL this week and won the league's fastest skater contest with a time of 14.16 seconds. Spiewak was also part of the winning puck relay team and his goal in the breakaway relay helped the Eastern Conference to the win in that event. Spiewak's Eastern Conference team won the All-Star Game 7-6.
