Vitucci Becomes Toledo\'s Head Coach
January 26, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, Ohio) Vice President and General Manager of the Toledo Storm Mike Miller announced today that he has lifted the interim tag and made Nick Vitucci the Storm's seventh head coach in franchise history.
Mike Miller, Toledo Storm Vice President and General Manager, discussed the move "I am pleased with Nick's work ethic and his desire to uphold the winning tradition that is Toledo Storm hockey. Nick's organizational skills, his competitive nature plus his experience in the ECHL make him the perfect fit to guide the Storm the rest of this campaign. I feel that this is a good move for the organization and hopefully it will be long term."
Vitucci, the owner of five ECHL championships over his career as a player and a coach, has guided the Storm to an 8-9-1 record since replacing Steve Harrison on December 20, 2003. Nick is signed with the Toledo Storm through July of 2004 and discussion about his future will take place at that time.
Over the course of his playing career, Nick appeared in the most games (479) in the regular season and in the playoffs (80) than any other goaltender in the history of the ECHL. Vitucci also holds records for the most wins (265) in the regular season by a goaltender and in the playoffs (43). Nick is first in minutes played in the regular season (27,291) and playoffs (4,841), plus his seven 20 or more win seasons is also tops on the list. Vitucci is the only net-minder to have two consecutive 30 or more win seasons when he did it between Charlotte and Toledo from 1994 to 1996.
Toledo will be home this Friday and Saturday night against the Roanoke Express.
