San Antonio Rampage News Release

ROCKFORD, Illinois (February 16, 2009) - Kyle Turris scored two first period goals to help San Antonio hold off a late Rockford rally and beat the IceHogs 4-3 Monday afternoon at the Rockford Metrocentre.

Turris posted six goals in 50 games with Phoenix this season, but the 19-year old from New Westminster, BC has four goals and three assists in three games with the silver and black since joining the team last Thursday.

He put the Rampage up 2-0 in the first period with goals at the 4:49 and 14:37 marks.

The Rampage entered their 13-game Rodeo Road Trip the top road power play team in the AHL. However, San Antonio had not scored on the man advantage in their last four, going 0-16. That changed 14:37 into the first when Joel Perrault found Turris in the circle for a quick shot and score after deflecting off an IceHogs' stick to make it 2-0 San Antonio.

Late in the first, Dylan Reese picked up a loose puck off Jeff Hoggan's stick, fired into traffic and found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Reese beat a screened Corey Crawford with forty-five seconds remaining in the period for a 3-0 Rampage lead through the first period.

In the second, Rockford's Danny Groulx got the IceHogs on the board at the 6:40 mark to cut the lead to 3-1. Groulx's shot from the blue line deflected off a Rampage skater past goalie Josh Tordjman.

In the third, San Antonio extended their lead 3:49 into the frame when the Rampage swarmed a loose puck in front of Crawford and Kevin Porter jabbed in the goal for a 4-1 lead, his fourth straight game with a tally.

Rockford would answer back quickly with two of their own scores. Tim Brent got his stick on a Pascal Pelletier wrister at 5:27 to cut the lead to 4-2. Then defenseman Jimmy Sharrow skated coast to coast behind the net and centered for Brent who deposited the goal for a 4-3 game at the 8:16 mark. Brent's two third period tallies were his 14th and 15th of the season.

Rockford, who had not won a game all season when trailing after the first period, was facing a San Antonio squad that was 19-2-1-1 leading into the third.

And it was the Rampage who held off a furious Rockford rally attempt down the stretch to hold on for a 4-3 victory. The win moves the Rampage to 3-3-2-1 on the Rodeo Road Trip and stand 10 points back of second place Rockford in the West Division. The IceHogs, who have not played in San Antonio all season, still have three trips to the Alamo City.

The Rampage win also moves them into a tie for seventh place with idle Quad City and Rampage Head Coach Greg Ireland coached his 350th professional game.

San Antonio gets a day off before each of their remaining four games on their 25-day road trip and faces division foes Peoria on Wednesday and Quad City on Friday.
