LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Springfield (2/11): The Manchester Monarchs scored five unanswered goals and goaltender Daniel Taylor stopped 29 shots to beat the Springfield Falcons, 5-2, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday night. Right wing Teddy Purcell (2), left wing Richard Clune, left wing Matt Moulson and left wing Vladimir Dravecky scored five unanswered goals for the Monarchs victory. The Falcons picked up the first two goals of the game from right wing Colin McDonald and left wing Viacheslav Trukhno. Monarchs' goaltender Daniel Taylor (3-1-0) saved all 29 shots for the win in relief of netminder Jonathan Bernier (12-16-3) who stopped 3-of-5 shots. Falcons' goaltender Devan Dubnyk (15-27-1) stopped 31-of-36 shots for the loss. Manchester went 2-for-7 with an extra attacker while Springfield was 0-for-7 with the man advantage.

Vs. Manitoba (2/13): The Manchester Monarchs scored three shootout tallies to top the Manitoba Moose, 3-2, in a shootout at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. The Monarchs picked up goals by center Marc-Andre Cliche and left wing Vladimir Dravecky in regulation. Right wing Trevor Lewis, center Justin Azevedo and Dravecky scored in the shootout for Manchester. Left wing Jason Jaffray and defenseman Maxime Fortunus lit the lamp in regulation for the Moose. Center Jason Krog scored the lone shootout tally for Manitoba. Monarchs' goaltender Daniel Taylor (4-1-0) earned his fourth win of the season with 17 saves in regulation and three saves in the shootout. Moose's netminder Curtis Sanford (5-3-1) took his first shootout loss of the season with 37 regulation saves and one shootout save. Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. Manitoba was also 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Vs. Lake Erie (2/14): Manchester Monarchs kept the lamp bright late in the game with six unanswered goals to beat the Lake Erie Monsters, 6-2, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Right wing Teddy Purcell (2), center Marty Murray, center Marc-Andre Cliche, right wing Kevin Westgarth and left wing Richard Clune scored for Manchester. Monsters' right wing Robert Snowball scored in his AHL debut and left wing Tom Fritsce added his 10th goal of the season. Monarchs' goaltender Daniel Taylor (5-1-0) picked up his fifth win of the season and fourth in a row with 20 saves. Monsters' netminder Tyler Wieman (9-19-1) took his 19th loss of the season stopping 28-of-34 shots. Manchester went 3-for-5 on the power play. Lake Erie was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

Manchester (24-24-0-5) is in sixth place in the Atlantic Division with 53 points after 53 games. The Providence Bruins (30-21-2-1) lead the Atlantic Division with 63 points. The fourth and final playoff position in the Atlantic Division is shared between the Worcester Sharks who have a record of 27-24-0-2 for 56 points in 53 games this season and the Lowell Devils (25-21-1-5, 56 points).

The Monarchs are 6-4-0-0 in their last 10 games and 5-1-0-0 in their last six games. Manchester is on a three-game winning streak.

The Monarchs are in 16th place in the AHL on the power play. The team is 44-for-253 with the man advantage for a 17.4-percent rating.

Manchester has stopped their opponent 224 times on 265 power play opportunities for an 84.5-percent rating this season, good for eighth place.

The Monarchs have a winning record on two days of the week, Wednesdays and Fridays. Manchester is 6-2-0-1 on Wednesdays and 10-5-0-2 on Fridays. The Monarchs are 5-12-0-0 on Saturday's and 2-4-0-1 on Sunday's this season.

When the Monarchs score first, they have gained a point in every game but four. Manchester is 15-4-0-4 in the 23 games where they have scored first.

Manchester is 13-3-0-3 when they have the lead following the first period. They are 17-3-0-2 when leading after two periods.

The Monarchs are undefeated when scoring four or more goals (11-0-0-0) and are 11-4-0-2 when they tally three goals in a game.

After going 2-4-0-1 in the month of October, the Monarchs went 7-4-0-2 in November, 7-6-0-1 in December and 3-9-0-1 in the month of January. Manchester is 5-1-0-0 in February.

Center Marty Murray's (9-26=35) goal and assist in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Lake Erie Monsters moved the veteran into first place on the Monarchs roster with 35 points. He also leads the team with 26 assists.

The veteran had a five-game scoring streak snapped on Friday night when he was held off the scoreboard against Manitoba in Manchester's 3-2 shootout win. Murray had 10 points (3-7=10) during his streak.

Reigning AHL Rookie of the Year right wing Teddy Purcell (15-19=34) scored four points in Saturday's win to extend his scoring streak (6-8=14) to seven games, the longest scoring streak this season, and move him into a tie with right wing Trevor Lewis (13-21=34) for second place on the Monarchs in scoring. The longest scoring streak in Monarchs history is center Michael Cammalleri with 25 points (14-11=25) in 14 games from October 29, 2004 - November 27, 2004.

Purcell also moved into the team lead for goal scoring with 15 tallies on the season.

Purcell's four-point (2-2=4) on Saturday, February 14 made him the 20th player to tally four points in one game. The franchise record for the most points in a game is five points (0-5=5) by center Jared Aulin on December 21, 2002.

Purcell has the game-winning goal in three of the Monarchs last four wins.

Lewis ranks second in assists and is tied for second in goals with left wing Scott Parse (13-14=27).

Lewis also leads the Monarchs with three shorthanded goals this season.

Parse leads the team with a plus/minus rating of plus-7 along with center Brian Boyle (4-9=13).

Parse has five goals and nine points in his last 10 games, including a three-game goal scoring streak (four goals during the streak) that lasted from January 30 - February 4.

Left wing Matt Moulson (10-15=25) ranks fifth overall on the Monarchs squad.

Center Gabe Gauthier (5-19=24) is ranked sixth in scoring.

Gauthier is also tied with right wing Pavel Rosa on the Monarchs all-time assists list with 84 helpers over three seasons. He is also ranked 10th in goals scored with 42 and ranked eighth with 126 points.

Left wing Vladimir Dravecky (4-16=20) has two goals and an assist in his last three games to move into seventh place with 20 points.

Center Justin Azevedo (6-13=19) is ranked eighth in scoring for the Monarchs

Azevedo has been plagued by injuries this season but when he has been in the lineup, he's averaged just under a point per game.

The rookie center holds a five-game assist streak (0-6=6) record, the longest assist streak for a Monarchs player this season.

Center Marc-Andre Cliche scored his first goal of the season in his fourth game of the season in Friday night's 3-2 shootout win over Manitoba. Then he collected his second tally in as many games in Saturday's win over Lake Erie. Cliche suffered an injury during the Kings training camp in September and was sidelined until early February.

Goaltender Daniel Taylor returned to the Monarchs lineup after spending the first half of the season with the ECHL's Reading Royals. He began the season with the Royals and collected a 3-17-1 record, a 3.96 goals-against-average and a .881 save-percentage in 23 games. The 5-foot-11, 179-pound netminder was born in Plymouth, England, and split the 2007-08 season between Manchester, Los Angeles and Reading. He registered a 13-5-2 record, a 2.40 goals-against-average and a .921 save-percentage in 23 games with the Monarchs and was undefeated in five games with the Royals going 3-0-0 with a 2.63 goals-against-average and a .917 save-percentage last season. Taylor made his NHL debut with the Kings against the Dallas Stars on March 29, 2008. He stopped eight shots in 20 minutes of play and let in two goals in his lone NHL game.

Taylor earned his first win of the season in a Monarchs uniform on Saturday, January 17 by making 26 saves on 28 shots for a 3-2 win against Portland. He is 5-1-0 in four games this season.

Taylor has won his last four games.

Netminder Jonathan Bernier is 12-16-3 with a 2.72 goals-against-average and a .899 save-percentage in 31 games with the Monarchs this season.

Bernier ended his franchise tying six-game losing streak on Friday, January 30 with a 3-0 win over Lowell, his second shutout of the season. He stopped all 33 shots from the Devils.

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS
