Adirondack Phantoms News Release

PHILADELPHIA - Former Phantom Steve Gainey's goal18 seconds into the third period stood up as the game-winner in a 3-2 win for the Hamilton Bulldogs over the Phantoms on Monday at the Wachovia Center. The Phantoms threatened up until the final second, but couldn't push a third goal past Bulldogs netminder Marc Denis.

After a scoreless first period, Hamilton jumped on the board 1:37 into the second frame. Brian Trotter put a shot on net that Scott Munroe stopped, but the rebound fell to his left and David Desharnais was able to push the puck home before Munroe could get to his left. It gave Hamilton the 1-0 lead.

Philadelphia answered almost exactly three minutes later on a power play when Danny Syvret fired a slapshot from the right point that avoided Denis and found the upper right corner. It was Syvret's 45th point of the year, extending his league lead in scoring among defensemen, and tied the game at 1-1 4:34 into the period.

Ben Maxwell restored the one-goal lead right at the end of a 5-on-3 power play. His slapshot from the right circle found a puck-sized hole in Munroe and crawled over the line before the goaltender could reach back for it. It came at 13:47 and made it a 2-1 game at the second intermission.

Gainey's goal came off a slapshot from the left circle that beat Munroe to the stick side. It gave Hamilton a 3-1 lead that held for less than two minutes before Nate Raduns deflected a shot from the left point by Oskars Bartulis and sent it past Denis. The Phantoms put on the pressure throughout the rest of the period and nearly found the equalizer several times, including right before the buzzer when a puck bounced over the stick of David Laliberte.

Denis earned the win and the second star with several impressive saves among his 27 on the day. Munroe took the loss with 26 stops.

The Phantoms return to action this Friday night when they host the Portland Pirates at the Wachovia Spectrum. The Phantoms will induct Frank Miceli into the Phantoms Hall of Fame during a pregame ceremony, and the team will wear special Broad Street Bullies jerseys for the game. It will be televised on Comcast SportsNet.

Adult tickets are just $10 and kids tickets just $5 for the remainder of the 2008-09 season. Tickets are available through ComcastTIX at 1-800-298-4200, at the Wachovia Complex box office or online at Phantomshockey.com.
